Your step-by-step guide to transferring eSIM to a new iPhone
Step 1: Prepare your devices for eSIM
- Ensure both devices support eSIM (e.g. iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or newer) and are updated to the latest iOS version.
- Make sure your new iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Save your contacts, messages, and settings using iCloud, or another backup method.
Step 2: Contact your eSIM provider
- Reach out to your mobile provider (e.g. EE or Vodafone) to confirm their eSIM transfer process. This may be iOS Quick Transfer (see step 3) or a manual transfer using a QR code or other details (see step 4).
- Request details for deactivating the eSIM on your old device and activating it on the new one. This may include a QR code or manual setup instructions.
Step 3: Use iOS Quick Transfer (Automatic Transfer)
If your devices allow it, you can use eSIM Quick Transfer to transfer the eSIM from the old phone to the new phone without needing anything from your network provider.
- Place your new iPhone near your old one during setup.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to transfer your data.
- Select the option to transfer the eSIM when prompted.
Step 4: Manually transfer your eSIM
- On the old iPhone, go to Settings, then Mobile Data, then eSIM, and remove the profile.
- Request a new QR code from your carrier.
- On the new iPhone, scan the QR code via Settings, then Mobile Data, then Add Data Plan, or manually input the carrier details.
Step 5: Verify your new eSIM
- Test the eSIM by making a call or sending a message.
- If you’re no longer using the old iPhone, deactivate the eSIM profile to avoid confusion.
